     The Pediatric Difference -

We believe that children need health care providers who are specially trained in children's medicine.

What is the difference between a pediatrician and a family practice doctor?

Our pediatricians have completed 4 years of medical school and 3 years of SPECIALIZED TRAINING EXCLUSIVELY IN PEDIATRICS (birth to age 21); which makes the pediatrician's expertise with children greater.  In addition, the office staff are geared toward children and their needs.  A family practice doctor goes through 4 years of medical school and 3 years of training, however; the family practice doctor receives only a few months training in pediatrics.

Our doctors complete at least 50 hours each year of continuing education EXCLUSIVELY in pediatrics; a family practice doctor may complete his hours in any ranges, so may not have any additional hours in pediatrics.

Kids are not little adults.

Their labs, e-rays and problems are different and they can get sicker quicker than adults because their immune systems are still developing.  Very young children cannot communicate well, so it is critical to know children's diseases.

What is the difference between a pediatric nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner?

CPNP - A Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is a nurse practitioner who is board certified and specializes in pediatric care.  A CPNP has 18 months to 2 years in pediatric training plus years of nursing as a pediatric nurse.

FNP - A Family Nurse Practitioner specializes in family practice.  They get some training on all health issues from birth to the elderly but have very little training in pediatrics.

Why wait for a crisis before you call a pediatrician?

When things go seriously wrong with your child, the family practice doctor will call a pediatrician to help.  Why wait for a crisis?  The pediatrician's patients are at a distinct advantage in this situation.  They already know your child, they are familiar with his or her problems and medical history and most importantly, they know when to act and where to get even more specialized help if it is needed.  Why risk the safety of your children?
